SINFOTON researchers awarded the X Prize madri + d Best Patent 

 

The patent 'Sistema para la mejora del rango dinámico y la reducción de la incertidumbre de medida en sensores distribuidos sobre fibra óptica' -coowned by Instituto de Óptica 'Daza de Valdés' (IO-CSIC), Universidad de Alcalá and ADIF was awarded the prize to the best patent in by the Fundación Fundación para el Conocimiento madri+d.

 

The inventors, Juan Diego Ania (Instituto de Óptica 'Daza de Valdés'),  Pedro Corredera ( Instituto de Física Aplicada)  and  Sonia Martín and Miguel González (Universidad de Alcalá) are members of the SINFOTON-CM Programme

SINFOTON Kick-off meeting

 

The kick-off meeting of the SINFOTON-CM Programme was held at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos on 16 January 2015. In this meeting, the Programme´s objectives, activities and Committees were introduced. A total of 66 researchers from the participating groups and laboratories attended and 27 oral contributions were presented.

Optic fiber for recording the temperature in extreme industrial environments

 

Optic fiber is normally used in the field of telecommunications to transmit information using light, but a group of researchers at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), participants in SINFOTON, has developed a technique that makes it possible to use optic fiber as a thermometer in extreme industrial environments.
